Review of the Year 2021
This time last year we were reflecting on a disruptive and difficult 2020 and looking forward with anticipation at 2021. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but having battled our way through 2020, we were feeling optimistic- we'd got through the worst of covid, surely. Well, it’s been a mixed bag, but overall- what a phenomenal year!
We’ve still had to navigate Covid (all the variants!) and all the challenges that has brought us. Weirdly, having dealt with it for over a year, it has felt at times like the expectation on us all to ‘roll with it’, know what we’re dealing with now and settle into a ‘new way of working’ has weighed heavy. While all the practical changes to the way we work are much more familiar now, it’s still been a mental hokey-cokey and we’ve had to be particularly mindful of our overall well-being. The window into peoples lives that the working zoom/teams culture created has made the work-life balance more fragile and even more important to maintain. Agile working, empathetic teamwork & management, and a focus on positive outcomes have been key to us thriving and achieving so much this year.
Recruitment has been tough in 2021. Whether companies needed the flexibility of a temporary workforce or gained the confidence to march forwards and take on permanent members for their team, the candidate pool has been hugely affected not only by covid, but also the labour shortages brought about by Brexit. Being right in the middle of the logistics golden triangle kept local industry booming and Team Impact busy, finding the right skills to meet the new demands placed upon it.
But we started strong, expanding into Peterborough in January, and just kept on going! Over the year we sadly lost a couple of team members to pastures new, but we welcomed many more. We’ve expanded our team to keep maintaining the high service-level bar we’ve set ourselves, celebrated several promotions and many big work anniversaries (including a 12, 15, 16 and two 19-year anniversaries!). We’ve invested in the wellbeing of the business and the team, launching a new CRM and online registration system, achieving even more level 3 CertRP REC qualifications, and gaining our first Mental Health First Aider. We increased our client base, working in partnership with even more companies across Northamptonshire. We’ve found over 500 people permanent job roles and found the right people to fulfil over 2000 temporary roles for our clients over the year. Making 2021 our most successful year in Impact’s history- and wow have the team worked hard to achieve that. The collaboration, collective skill and genuine care for the candidates and clients shown by the team has been ever-present throughout the good times and the tough times! It was great to be able to get back out into the community again at times too, through careers fairs and volunteering in the community and we look forward to doing much more of that in 2022.
Talking of supporting the community, although we’re not back to our full social capacity yet, we have made the most of supporting local businesses, whenever we were able! We finally managed to get back together physically for our much-loved meals out together. Gathering as many of the team together as possible, we enjoyed eventful nights and delicious meals at The Griffin in Mears Ashby, The Duke of Wellington in Stanwick and The Yakult Lounge in Northampton, as well as a fair few ‘meetings’ at The Coach in Wellingborough and Corkers Northampton. Just in the nick of time the whole Impact team were fortunate enough to have a fantastic night out at the Kettering Park Hotel for a very funny and glamorous end to the year. Thank you to all for accommodating us- we will be back!
So, we enter 2022, a little wiser, definitely older and with continued optimism. Exciting plans for quarter one are already in place as we prepare to continue improving our service and performance, with more training & development of the teams and the long-awaited launch of a more user-friendly website! We thank everyone we’ve had the pleasure of dealing with for their support over the last year and look forward to supporting even more candidates to find the perfect new roles within our client’s teams in 2022.
