What do you do at Impact and what does a typical workday look like for you?
As Office Manager for Impact my role is very varied and covers different aspects of the business. I am responsible for the company finances, accounts, purchasing, HR and I manage the administration team who look after payroll, credit control, IT and compliance. Anything that makes a business tick behind the scenes you can probably assume I have a hand in. No working day is ever really the same for me, just one of the reasons I love my role.
What did you do before coming to Impact?
I worked in broadcasting for several years looking after programme scheduling, editing and everything in between as PA for a radio station. When the time came for me to move on, I reached out to Impact straight away as I had temped for them previously and the whole experience had been extremely positive. I’m still here after starting work on reception and working my way up to Office Manager.
What motivates you at work?
It is my goal every day to ensure my team are happy and thriving and that everything is in place for all areas of the business to succeed.
Does anyone or anything particularly inspire you outside of work?
I volunteer for a charity called the Cinnamon Trust which offers walking and fostering services for pets of the elderly and ill who may not be able to take care of their beloved companions as they would like to. The current restrictions due to Covid19 have meant that I have not been able to volunteer as regularly as I would like, but anyone able and willing to help those in a vulnerable position especially during these uncertain times are inspiring to me and it reminds me to try and think of others.
What new challenges are you/our clients and candidates facing?
Businesses have found themselves in unchartered territory in particular with business levels, the furlough scheme and finances. Following on from this I would say that businesses now more than ever are being even more mindful of their finances. Working through lockdown we were sure to maintain the mutual open communication with have with our clients. Talking openly and honestly ensured we continued to understand each other’s business needs during such an unprecedented time and offer support where we could.
What has been the highlight of working at Impact for you?
My highlights have to be winning Employee’s Employee of the Year 2019 and also receiving a certificate of outstanding achievement and bottle of bubbly for Bosses Day 2020 – something the entire Impact team had organised for the management team. It was a lovely gesture and I really could not have been more surprised. We’re a thoughtful bunch here!
What qualities are needed to succeed in the recruitment industry?
No matter what role you may have within the industry you need to be passionate and have the desire to go that extra mile for your candidates, clients and colleagues. In my opinion that’s what makes Impact a standout company to work for, we live and breathe our values and are all in it together.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love being outdoors and am happiest when I am out walking in nature or in the garden. Monty Don is my hero, and I am always on the look-out for bargain forgotten about plants and flowers that I can take home and nurse back to health. I have a serious problem and buy far too many! I also love music (my vinyl collection needs some work though), reading and interior design – I like a project!
How do you take your tea/coffee?
Yorkshire Tea with soya milk and one sugar.
